So three of the four factors have been covered and we’ll now look at features to look for when buying quality shapewear.
Choose shapewear made out of soft fabrics so that they are comfortable to wear but that are also flexible so that they provide the level of support that you need.
Level of Support
Shapewear can come in a variety of support levels ranging from light, to medium to firm.
Light Support Medium Support Firm Support
Silicone edges make sure that your shapewear stays in the perfect position without rolling down eg shaping briefs below and keeps your shapewear in the position you want eg shaping half slip below.
Choose shapewear that has fused or bonded seams as this makes the seams smoother and gives the garment the appearance of being seam free. This also ensure a smooth and snug fit that feels like your second skin.
Features that eliminate ‘dig in’ and create smooth edges
Examples of features on shapewear that eliminate dig-in and provides a smooth silhouette under clothing include:
Look for straps that are adjustable to allow you to get the best possible fit for yourself. Some shapewear also offers convertible straps that you can wear in a variety of ways (V-back, Criss Cross, T-Back, Racerback or traditional strap style). Some styles also allow you to remove the straps so are perfect for your strapless dresses and tops 🙂
Many shapewear styles now offer feminine touches such as pretty, flexible lace and jacquard that moves with you for a comfortable fit.
Hooks and eyes
If your shapewear has hooks and eyes then look for designs that offer options with these so that your shapewear can alter with your needs. Examples could include bodysuits with extra hook positions at the bottom opening to ensure comfort and fit for different torso lengths eg mesh body shaper below. As well as waist cinchers that you can adjust according to the support/firmness you require at different times
Some clever shapewear offers the choice of two necklines and backline in the one style – check out the scoop and v-neck reversible style below
Underbust styles (no neckline) allow you to wear your own bra and frees you to wear any neckline you like without your shapewear being visible and plunging necklines are always popular for the warmer months.
